Who needs resilience?

The world is getting more complex, more crises and disasters seem to be happening, more companies and organisations suffer from the unexpected or unplanned but is that just chance or bad luck? Our view is that it has very little to do with luck. We believe that a lack of foresight, failure to identify realistic risks, lack of planning and a failure to keep those under regular review are the causes, and luck (good or bad) is what happens after something goes wrong. The absence of planning and a capability to respond quickly and efficiently is what differentiates prepared organisations from the unprepared. It doesn't have to be complex or expensive , it doesn't have to be a 1000 page policy, and it should be tailored to your needs not a one-size fits all approach. Resilience is achievable with thought and adequate preparation, and the first step is realising and acknowledging that the time to prepare is now, when there isn't a crisis happening. The answer to the question 'who needs resilience' is everybody does.
'If you fail to prepare, then prepare to fail'.
