Bowers Risk and Resilience has now been operating for 4 years. And what a strange and unique 4 years its been. We started with a premise that government, businesses, charities, and indeed everybody needed to spend a bit more time thinking about their resilience, and taking steps to improve it. We were just starting to get that message out there when Coronavirus came along, and proved our point! Unfortunately at the same time stopping us from doing much about it. Since then though we've come on significantly and are still banging the same drum. Companies (of every kind) need to plan for a crisis when there isn't one, need to strengthen their defences when they're not under attack, and need to train their people when they're not firefighting. To quote a venerable old colleague, '10 minutes before the ball is not the time to learn to dance'.
And what have we learned during this time. Well, many things but the key ones are:-
Flexibility, always be prepared to adapt, adjust and occasionally try new things, even if they make you uncomfortable
Standards; always maintain your standards even when things are tough or there is pressure for a 'good enough' approach
People; always look after your people and those you are working with, developing that team approach. Individually we may be good, but together we can be great
Details; get the big picture right be ensuring you also get the details correct
Promises; never make a promise you cant keep, and always keep the ones you do
Bowers Risk and Resilience aims to make our 5th year in business the best one yet.
